Exceptional Software Engineering Services
Patient Monitor and Medical Imaging Instruments

Examples of Our Work

For over 20 years, Syncro Medical's engineering teams have developed high quality software for a wide range of medical instruments.

The following examples are just some of the products Syncro Medical has successfully helped bring to market:

Patient Monitoring

Vital-Sign Monitors

Multi Function Patient Monitor A world leader in patient monitoring systems engaged Syncro Medical to augment its internal software engineering staff in order to greatly accelerate time to market for a next generation product. Syncro designed and implemented a new, high-performance touch-screen user interface. We also architected a real-time database system optimized for the product's memory-constrained environment. In addition, Syncro integrated several external interfaces for data acquisition (including SpO2, ECG, BIS, and Spirometry sensors).

(C#, .NET, WPF, DirectX, Windows Embedded, SQL Server, ADO.NET; Rational Rose UML, StarUML; Parasoft)

Web server-based Patient Monitor

Recognizing a gap in its internal bandwidth and technical capabilities, this client turned to Syncro Medical to
web-enable its central nurses station product line. We designed and implemented a web server-based application to facilitate remote monitoring and display capability of its central nurses station via desktop browsers.

(C#, .NET, IIS, SQL Server, ASP.NET)

Specialized Cardiac Monitor

Prior to releasing its newest system, this manufacturer of highly specialized hemodynamic monitors engaged Syncro Medical to perform an independent analysis of the design and code. Next, the client asked Syncro Medical to design and implement a proprietary communication protocol into the unit, enabling it to be integrated into other monitoring systems.

(Windows/C#/WPF, Ubuntu Linux, C/C++)

Imaging and Image Processing

Intravascular Imaging SystemUltrasound Instrument

Facing competitive pressures, this large, multinational firm decided to engage Syncro Medical for product development rather than invest in a large, internal staff. Inheriting a project that was months behind schedule, we successfully implemented the new system on time and in full compliance with FDA process. The project involved creating a software architecture and designing the user interface for a completely new, next-generation intravascular ultrasound device. Other aspects of the development effort included real-time data acquisition, high performance image processing and rendering, and DICOM archiving.

Syncro Medical also designed and implemented a custom Windows application to facilitate viewing of specialized DICOM-based archives.

(C#, .NET, custom controls, DirectX/GDI, Windows XP, Rational XDE)

Hematology Imaging Instrument

This division of a large, international corporation was formed to market a new point-of-care diagnostic instrument that integrates hematology analysis, slide preparation and slide reading into a single system. With time to market critically important, this firm engaged Syncro Medical to jump-start the development effort, while it built an internal software staff. Syncro Medical engineers designed and developed system configuration user interfaces, sophisticated report generation capability, and a connectivity infrastructure for several different LIS and HIS protocols.

(C#/.NET, WPF, Silverlight/MVVM)

Digital Pathology Imaging System

This start-up firm initially engaged Syncro Medical to provide full software development support for an advanced,
high-resolution imaging system for the pathology market. Syncro engineers helped establish the software development process, and then developed the overall software architecture, user interaction, high-level system control, and system connectivity. Based on the success of the initial effort, the company subsequently expanded Syncro's involvement to include a fully automated robotic version of the product.

(C#/.NET, WPF, WCF, SQL Server)

Clinical Laboratory Instruments Immunoassay Instrument

Immunoassay Instrument Product Line

During our nearly 15-year relationship with this firm, Syncro Medical has assisted with nearly every aspect of their immunoassay instruments.  Applying engineering teams of varying size and specialized expertise, Syncro has helped accelerate development time for robotics applications, LIS interfaces, real-time embedded control, database development and user interface for this firm's immunoassay instruments product line.

(C++, C#, Windows, RTOS32, Rose Real-time, Rational Rose UML)

Automated Enzyme Immunoassay Processing System

This company engaged Syncro Medical to develop an application that configures, stores, controls and monitors a multi-plate, multi-incubator assay instrument. Syncro worked closely with client personnel to define and implement what the company now calls "the most advanced and user-friendly control system available". Syncro also designed the application's database to manage and store a large number of parameters for both system configuration and the entire complement of analytical steps required for virtually all ELISA immunoassays: adding samples and reagents, washing, incubation, and absorbance detection.

(C++, C#, Windows, Rose Real-time, Rational Rose UML)

Near-Patient Diagnostics Systems Cystometry Instrument

Cystometry Application

Because this client didn’t have in-house Windows development capability, Syncro was engaged to create a Windows application to operate in conjunction with their urodynamic diagnostic instrument.  The HIPAA-compliant application developed by Syncro Medical collects data from the microprocessor-based instrument, and then summarizes, displays and reports the findings for patient studies.

(C#, .NET)

Therapeutic Devices TMS Therapy Instrument

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) System

This startup firm engaged Syncro Medical to function as its software department for the development of its first-to-market TMS system. Under the guidance of the client's R&D executive, Syncro's engineering team worked alongside other outsource firms to design and implement the new system. Syncro developed software that handles clinician user interaction and manages the TMS therapy session.  Full patient prescription/treatment information is maintained in a separate database application developed by Syncro Medical.

(C#, .NET, custom controls, SQL)

Sleep and Respiratory System

In order to meet aggressive product release deadlines, this client engaged Syncro Medical to take on key portions of their product development effort. Syncro prototyped and developed the user interface for a next-generation ventilator. In addition, Syncro Medical implemented modem-based external communication from the patient device to the responsible clinician.

(Embedded C++, PEG, Windows/ThreadX)

Connectivity

Medical device connectivity and interoperability are an increasingly important component of software-enabled instruments. Syncro Medical's extensive experience in LIS, HIS, and device integration can allow your engineers to focus on core capabilities, while Syncro ensures that your instrument meets your market's interface and communication requirements.

Syncro Medical has worked with a wide range of standard and proprietary communication protocols and interfaces. We can define an architectural approach that will let your product adapt to ever-evolving standards, design and implement the desired protocols, and execute compatibility tests to be sure the results meet spec.
